Christmas table linens
If you aren’t keen about romantic Christmas decorations and do not want to be surrounded with silver and gold, create your own whimsical table linens that feature just a hint of a Christmas motif. The kids will certainly love it.
1 Materials: Thick cotton canvas, scissors, sewing supplies, printing dye, iron, small wooden blocks, a piece of linoleum, glue, knife. You can select striped, polka-dot or checked fabric – but select one so that the pattern will not stand out too much and the stamped picture will be apparent. For a more vibrant effect, two shades of the same fabric were used.
2 Cut out the fabric and sew a tablecloth and placemats from it. Create your own stamps. Cut shapes out of linoleum and glue them to small wooden blocks. Brush on dye and stamp on a pre-designated place.
3 Always stamp onto fabric that has been washed and had all impregnation removed. Before stamping, it is good to test the stamp on a scrap of fabric (see the article on
fabric stamping). Allow the dye to dry well and fix the dye according to the package instructions.
4 In our case we used Pébéo Setacolor dye. The dyes can be mixed together and are set using an iron.
5 We decorated the tablecloth in the corners and the middle, while the placemats were stamped in the two opposite corners.
6 Blue placemats complement the yellow tablecloth.
