Mother’s Day heart
Mother’s Day is a beautiful holiday currently experiencing a revival in the Czech Republic . Every mother is pleased when her son or daughter wishes her a Happy Mother’s Day with a small gift or card. Because we always give our mothers presents out of love, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to decorate the gift with a heart symbol. You’ll have this simple paper heart - whose symbolism will add another dimension to your present or flower bouquet - finished in a heartbeat.
What you’ll need: Coloured paper; paper printed with flowers or fruit (you can use pages out of catalogues, magazines, printed wrapping paper or a square of paper that you have glued a napkin pattern to); ruler; pencil; scissors; transparent tape or glue; ribbon for hanging.
Draw two 9 x 11 cm rectangles on a sheet of paper and cut these out. Using scissors, round off the corners on one of the short sides of the rectangle.
Make three cuts into the other side of the rectangle to make four even bands (you can measure and draw the lines where you should cut beforehand).
Create the other part of the heart from a different colour paper the same way. Weave both parts together and adhere the ends of the bands together.
Tape the finished heart to a card, a gift package or use a ribbon to hang it to a bouquet.
Finished heart.
You can make a larger number of hearts and use different paper for each.
A combination of one solid-colour paper and printed paper or two printed papers of contrasting colours is attractive. The result is reminiscent of patchwork.
